A Gupt ID, not your number
People find you by a 6-digit Gupt ID or your QR code. There are no usernames, and no phone number or email is ever asked for.
GuptChat for Android · version 1.0.9
GuptChat is a messenger for Android that asks for no phone number and no email. People reach you by your Gupt ID or your QR code, and your messages are encrypted on your phone before they leave it.
Updates keep your chats: install the new APK over the old one. Do not uninstall first.
Chats, calls, channels and statuses, built around a Gupt ID instead of a number.
People find you by a 6-digit Gupt ID or your QR code. There are no usernames, and no phone number or email is ever asked for.
Messages, photos, voice notes, files and polls are locked on your phone before they are sent. The server only passes on what it cannot open (new encryption in 1.0.9).
Secret chats self-destruct on your timer and block screenshots while open; the server deletes their messages as soon as they are delivered. Any new chat can also clean itself up, from 2 hours to 10 months.
Phone-to-phone calls, encrypted in transit (DTLS-SRTP), with a security code both sides can compare. Screen sharing, reactions, and a relay that hides your IP when a direct connection is blocked.
Public channels for broadcasts, private channels protected by the key in their invite link, and live voice or video chats inside them.
Photo, video, voice and coloured text statuses that last 24 hours, with replies and a list of who viewed yours.
Ask with one or several answers, let people change their vote, and see who voted. Polls travel locked, like messages.
Keep up to four accounts on one phone and switch between them in a tap. A passcode lock with fingerprint keeps the app itself closed.
Want a number that is easy to remember? VIP and VVIP Gupt IDs are available on request from inside the app: Settings → Buy VIP Gupt ID.
What is locked, what the server can still see, and how you check that your messages reach the right phone.
Messages are encrypted on your phone. The server only passes on locked messages, photos, voice notes, files and polls that it cannot open (new encryption in 1.0.9). What the server does see is metadata: who writes to whom, when, and how big a message or file is.
An independent security review of the new encryption is still pending, so this page does not call GuptChat end-to-end encrypted. We will say so when that review is done.
Every contact on the new encryption has a 60-digit security code made from both phones' keys. Compare it in person or on a call: when it matches on both sides, your messages are going to the right phones. A new phone or key on either side changes the code.
12 words made on your phone that reset a forgotten password. They never leave your phone, and without them a password cannot be reset, because there is no phone number or email on your account.
Chats with someone who has not updated still use the old encryption, which the server could undo. The app marks these contacts; ask them to install the latest version.
Where the data lives. The server keeps up to the last 500 messages of a chat, in their locked form, so they can reach a phone that is offline. Messages with a timer are removed when it runs out; secret-chat messages are deleted as soon as they are delivered. Statuses vanish after 24 hours. The full list is in the privacy policy.
Version 1.0.9 · Android 7.0 or newer · a signed APK straight from gupt.chat. Pick the build for your phone.
| Build | For which phones | Size | Download |
|---|---|---|---|
| GuptChat.apkarm64 · recommended | Almost every phone from the last few years (64-bit). Start here. | 29.3 MB | Download GuptChat.apk, arm64 |
| GuptChat-32bit.apkarmeabi-v7a | Older or entry-level 32-bit phones. | 27.0 MB | Download GuptChat-32bit.apk |
| GuptChat-Universal.apkall variants | Any Android phone. The biggest file, because it carries every variant. | 43.8 MB | Download GuptChat-Universal.apk |
Not sure which one? Take the arm64 build. If Android answers "App not installed", your phone needs the Universal build.
Tap a Download button above. If the browser asks whether to keep the file, keep it.
Tap the finished download in the notification shade, or open it from your Files app.
On Android 8 or newer, Android asks once per app, such as your browser: tap Settings, turn the switch on, then go back. On Android 7 turn on Settings → Security → Unknown sources once.
Tap Install, then Open. Create an account with a name and a password; you get your 6-digit Gupt ID when you sign up.
Updating? Do not uninstall. Install the new APK over the old one and your chats, accounts and settings stay. Android only accepts an update signed with the same key as the app already installed, so a tampered APK cannot install over your GuptChat.
More help is inside the app: Settings → Help & Support.
We do not use that label yet. Since version 1.0.9, messages, photos, voice notes, files and polls are encrypted on your phone, and the server only passes on locked content it cannot open. An independent security review of this new encryption is still pending, so we do not advertise GuptChat as end-to-end encrypted until it is done.
Two things the server can always see: metadata (who writes to whom, when, and the size of messages and files) and the contents of chats with someone still on an old version, which use the old encryption that the server could undo.
No. Your account is a 6-digit Gupt ID and a password. People reach you by that ID or by scanning your QR code (Settings → Account). There are no usernames either.
On the sign-in screen tap "Forgot password?" and enter your Gupt ID and your 12-word backup phrase, or upload its backup file. Make the phrase now in Settings → Account → Backup phrase: without it the password cannot be reset, because there is no phone number or email on your account.
No. Install the new APK over the installed app and your chats, accounts and settings stay. Do not uninstall first: that removes the app's data from the phone.
The arm64 build (GuptChat.apk) runs on almost every phone from the last few years and is the smallest. Older 32-bit phones need the 32-bit build. The Universal build works on any phone and is the largest, because it carries every variant. If Android says "App not installed", take the Universal build.
Yes, up to 4 accounts on one phone, each with its own Gupt ID. Switch between them in a tap from the settings.
A Gupt ID with a pattern that is easy to remember. VIP and VVIP numbers are available on request from inside the app: Settings → Buy VIP Gupt ID shows the numbers on offer and lets you ask for one.
Inside the app: Settings → Help & Support → Ask a question or Report a bug. Messages and calls not arriving while the app is closed is usually a battery setting: in Settings → Notifications allow notifications, "Run in background" and Autostart, and on Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Realme phones also lock GuptChat in the recent apps list.
